Les was actively involved with the University of Exeter for several years before setting up the Halpin Trust, so we had an existing relationship to build on. Over the past 5 years, the University has worked with the Trustees to find a wide range of projects that interested us both, some of which are highlighted below.
Health:
We have been long-time supporters of Dr David Llewellyn’s work on improving the diagnostic pathway for Alzheimer’s disease. View one of his excellent applications here.
Multi-disciplinary: Nature conservation and Education
We supported the University of Exeter student Expedition Society FXpedition, encouraging students to undertake overseas scientific research expeditions, with all the planning, fundraising, liaising with local communities etc that these entail. You can view one of their reports here.
Nature conservation and environment:
We have provided funding to enable the gathering of ecological information on sharks and other predatory fish around Principe Island. This information is badly needed to support marine conservation measures in the area.
